PIXERS Prints for the Art Fair in London
As you probably already know, PIXERS’ prints appear from time to time in spaces different than private homes and offices. Recently, we had an occasion to be also a part of an artistic event, the second edition of the START Art Fair that took place in the Saatchi Gallery from 10 to 13 September, in London.
Since two years we have been collaborating with the curators of the Lagos Photo Festival providing them high-quality prints of artistic photography including acrylic and metal prints as well as wall murals. Our cooperation went so far that we also provided our services to one of the festival’s partners, the gallery Art Twenty One that showed its artists during the fair in London.
This year, the START fair was organised for a second time, in a collaboration between Saatchi Gallery and Parallel Contemporary Art, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting emerging artists across the world, founded by art collectors and patrons David and Serenella Ciclitira in 2008.
START features young galleries from around the world, and shifts the focus on emerging artists and new art scenes. In addition to the usual gallery booths, the fair also introduces a curated projects section, a charity auction held by Christie’s and a talks programme. This year, participating in the fair were 47 international galleries from 25 cities.
One of the galleries was the Art Twenty One gallery and we had a great pleasure to print for them a series of photographs made by Namsa Leuba.
Her research during the last four years was focused on African identity through Western eyes and her works are mainly colourful, a bit surreal portraits of diverse people, dressed in originally patterned clothes, with references to traditional African culture and the processes of globalization. Her work has been published in numerous magazines, including I-D, Numéro, Foam, Interview, Vice Magazine, New York Magazine, Wallpaper*, and British Journal of Photography, among others.
We would like to present to you some of her exceptional photographs that formed a part of the exhibition and to show you some shots from the display itself. We hope to collaborate with the gallery again next year!
